Clarity of Inner Being in Anchoring

🔥 Each group has some interests... One may not know all the points which lead to the collective good of the group in the long run. By discussing with wise or knowledgeable people before taking a decision, you will make a worthy decision in the long run. However there is saying in this part of the world… “evvaru cheppina vininanthane vegiri padaka vivarinpadagun”. This is meaning one needs to listen to whatever others say and not get angry. Then, without hastening up, one can analyse to come up with a decision and own up. 4-5-2024

Good Anchoring Advice

Please explain some more. Your suggestion (to listen first to the opinion of other people before deciding) appears a good advice to counter anchoring. 6-5-2024

Clarity of Inner Being in Anchoring

@Anonymous: To me it all boils down to the clarity of inner being of the person making a decision. The better the clarity of his/her inner being, the more sense it makes to anchor on that first suggestion as it will then lead to collective good.
For example, I know for sure my father has a better clarity of inner being than myself and hence I seek his suggestion before I decide and most of the time I go with him.
But suppose a person who I seek the advice from is not having better clarity of inner being than myself then it is better not to go with their suggestion.
In the experiential system we have Prahalada who dared to go against the suggestion of his father because he knew the inner clarity index of his father. That is where the intellect to distinguish between what is truth and false will come into the picture I suppose.
Overall, if you know the suggestion is coming from a person having better clarity of inner being then your own anchor is providing, it will work well to follow the advice. Otherwise use your own intellect. 6-5-2024

How Clarity of Inner Being Helps to Avoid Anchoring Bias

Interesting... I looked this up in AI and thought I'd copy and paste the answer here as it's pretty good:

Anchoring bias occurs when individuals rely too heavily on initial information (the "anchor") when making decisions, even if that information is irrelevant or misleading. However, when you have clarity of inner being, you are more attuned to your true values, beliefs, and emotions, which can serve as a counterbalance to external influences and anchoring bias.

Here's how clarity of inner being can help mitigate anchoring bias:
  • AWARENESS OF BIASES: Clarity of inner being fosters self-awareness, including awareness of cognitive biases such as anchoring bias. When you understand your own tendencies and biases, you're more likely to recognize when you're being influenced by an anchor and take steps to mitigate its impact.
  • OBJECTIVITY: Having clarity of inner being can help you maintain objectivity in decision-making. By being grounded in your authentic self, you're less likely to be swayed by external factors or arbitrary anchors. Instead, you can approach decisions with a clearer perspective, free from undue influence.
  • FLEXIBLE THINKING: Clarity of inner being can promote flexible thinking and openness to new information. Rather than rigidly adhering to the initial anchor, you're more likely to consider alternative perspectives and adjust your decision-making process accordingly.
  • EMOTIONAL REGULATION: When you have clarity of inner being, you're better equipped to manage your emotions. Anchoring bias can sometimes be fueled by emotional reactions to the initial anchor. By cultivating emotional intelligence and self-regulation, you can make decisions based on rationality rather than emotional attachment to a particular reference point.
Overall, clarity of inner being empowers individuals to make decisions that are more aligned with their true selves and less susceptible to the distortions caused by anchoring bias. 6-5-2024
